Markus Bauer

Markus Bauer is an exceptional musician and conductor whose passion for historical performance practice has given him a reputation to be one of the most musical trumpeters out there (Anthony Rooley). As a specialist in trumpet, Markus honed his skills at the prestigious Schola Cantorum Basiliensis under the tutelage of renowned trumpeter Jean-Francois Madeuf, and his singing abilities were further refined by Sebastian Goll. Markus's musical journey has been marked by an unwavering commitment to excellence and an unbridled enthusiasm for the music.

After performances all over Europe, in the Gulf region, and China, he will give his debut as conductor in Mexico with the Orquesta Sinfónica Rozst and the Sinfonietta Nacional. 

His Way

Markus Bauer is a talented and versatile musician hailing from Austria. He began his musical journey at the age of 8 by learning trumpet at the Conservatory in his hometown of Graz. After completing the specialized Gymnasium for music, he went on to study Musicology at the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz, specializing in Music History. In 2008, Bauer-Makarenko moved to Basel to study Natural trumpet with Jean-François Madeuf at the world-renowned Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. There he also learned singing with Sebastian Goll, baroque timpani with Philip Tarr, harpsichord with Markus Hünninger, and conducting with Hans-Martin Linde.

Bauer has perfected his skills through master courses with esteemed musicians, including Otto Sauter, Stanko Arnold, and Hans Gansch for modern trumpet, Edward H. Tarr and Joël Lahens for natural trumpet, Jean-Paul Bourry for cornetto, Alan Dornak for singing, and Achim Holub for conducting.

Throughout his career, Bauer has performed with notable conductors and ensemble leaders, including Andrea Marcon, Anthony Rooley, Chiara Banchini, Gottfried von der Goltz, Karen Kamensek and Andres Orozco-Estrada, and with orchestras such as La Cetra Basel, Capriccio Basel, Capella Leopoldina, Doha Baroque Ensemble, Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Russian Chamberphilharmonic St. Petersburg and others.

Bauer's repertoire as a conductor includes Handel's oratorios, Mozart's operas, Telemann's passions, and symphonies by Haydn, Schubert, and Mozart. He has also conducted the first modern performance of Phil Hart's "Ode to Harmony."

He is also an accomplished singer, having performed in Cantata concerts of Bach, oratorios by Handel, or in Charpentier's opera Actéon.

As an educator, he worked in Austria, Qatar, and China and was the trumpet teacher of the Royal Orchestras of the Sultanate Oman. In 2012 he was part of the faculty and conductor of the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS).

​

As of 2025, Bauer has been appointed as the artistic director of the Austrian ChamberPhilharmonic.
